Hi, Pack! These are the things my humans and I use, trust, or have tested to make full-time RV life safer, cleaner, cooler, and a whole lot easier. If it has not survived real travel days, campground messes, and my very serious bulldog inspection, it does not belong here.

Heat guide

How hot is too hot for your pet?

Below is what we go by. Flat-faced dogs, cats, rabbits and birds all overheat sooner than people expect, and a camper without power heats up fast. Cut every number below by ten degrees for bulldogs, frenchies, pugs, boxers and Persian cats.

Outside air near you
Check today’s temperature where you are and I’ll point you straight at the right row below.

{{ wxError }}
{{ wxTemp }}
{{ wxBand }}
{{ wxAdvice }}
{{ wxStamp }}
This is the air outside, not inside your camper
A parked camper, car or trailer runs 30 to 40°F hotter than the air outside, and it gets there in under an hour. On a mild 75°F afternoon that is well past 110°F inside. On an 85°F day, the inside of a parked car hits about 104°F in 10 minutes and 114°F in 20. Never judge what it is like in there by what it feels like out here, and never leave a pet inside without air conditioning you can confirm is running.
The temperature lookup is done by a public weather service, which needs the coordinates to answer. We do not store them, and we do not know who asked. Everything below works with no signal at all.
{{ h.range }}
{{ h.what }}
Signs to stop immediately
Loud raspy breathing, thick ropey drool, bright red or purple gums, wobbling, refusing to move. Get into air conditioning and call the nearest emergency vet.
Power loss is an emergency
If the trailer air conditioning quits in summer, a pet shut inside has minutes, not hours. Know where the nearest cooled building is before you settle in for the night.
Heading out in the heat? The Necto temperature monitor on my Gear page alerts mama and daddy’s phones if the camper gets too warm while I’m home alone. And you can win one in my Necto giveaway through December 14.

Crossing the border

Taking your dog into Canada (and back home)

Border rules change, so check the official pages below before every trip. This is what they said when we checked in October 2026, for a pet dog traveling with you by car or RV.

Going into Canada
  • Rabies certificate for dogs over 3 months old: signed by a licensed vet, describing your dog, and showing a rabies shot given within the last 3 years. Bring the paper certificate, not just the tag.
  • Puppies under 3 months don’t need the shot, but you must be able to prove their age.
  • No health certificate is needed for a pet dog that is traveling with you.
  • Pet food: up to 20 kg (about 44 lb) per pet, made in the USA, in the original store packaging, and only for the pet riding with you.
Coming back into the U.S.
  • Your dog must be at least 6 months old.
  • Your dog needs a microchip a standard scanner can read.
  • Fill in the free CDC Dog Import Form online before you reach the border: one per dog, good for 6 months. Keep the receipt.
  • Your dog has to look healthy at the crossing.
What to carry in the truck
  • Rabies certificate (the original, plus a copy)
  • Vet and shot records
  • Microchip number (it’s on your pet card above)
  • CDC Dog Import Form receipt, printed or saved on your phone
  • Pet food in its original, unopened store bags
  • Your pet card from this page, for any vet you need along the way

Traveling with a cat? Canada still wants the rabies certificate; the CDC form is for dogs only. Check the official pages: USDA: pets going to Canada, Canada’s pet food rules and CDC: bringing a dog into the U.S.

Hitting the road? See the gear we travel with, including the monitor that watches the camper temperature when I’m home alone. And don’t miss my Necto giveaway, open through December 14.

Hi, I’m Biscuit!

I’m a service dog and English Bulldog living my best life full-time in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee — rolling through every adventure in our Grand Design Reflection fifth wheel with my mama Denise and daddy Jeffrey. Home isn’t a place for us, it’s wherever we park for the night — a quiet hollow outside Gatlinburg, a bluff overlooking the ridgelines, or a gravel site by a creek.

Blu Technology Review: Clean Water and a Dry Floor in Our Camper

5 out of 5 paws

I am Biscuit, and water is serious business in a house on wheels. I drink it, mama cooks with it, and daddy keeps an eye on every hose and fitting under the camper. Blu Technology makes three things that keep our water clean and our floor dry. Here is what each one does and why we use it.

Biscuit shows off our Blu Technology water setup. Music by Rafael Krux, filmmusic.io (CC BY 4.0).

1. Blu Technology WaterStop

WaterStop is a leak alarm for the camper. Small sensors sit in the spots where leaks like to start, and if one of them gets wet, WaterStop shuts the water off by itself. A slow drip under a sink can ruin a floor before anybody notices. This one catches it for us, even when we are out on a hike. You can add extra sensors to cover more spots.

2. PURBLU AR3 LED UVC 4-Stage RV Water Filter & Purification System

This is our water filter. It runs the water through four stages, and one of them is a UV light that treats the water after the filters do their job. Campground water is different at every stop, so this is how mama knows the water in my bowl is clean wherever we park.

3. Portable RV Water Softener with Smart Cap

Hard water leaves crusty spots on the faucets and the shower and builds up inside the water heater. The softener takes care of that before the water ever gets into the camper. The Smart Cap lets you recharge it without unhooking any hoses, so recharge day is quick and easy.

Necto Temperature Monitor Review: Peace of Mind When I Stay Home

5 out of 5 paws

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only share gear we actually use.

Biscuit relaxing in the camper with her Necto temperature monitor
Biscuit, safe and comfy at home in the camper.

When mama and daddy run errands, I stay home in the camper and nap. Necto is how they know my nap spot isn’t getting too hot or too cold. It keeps an eye on the temperature for them, and if it goes outside the safe range, their phones get an alert right away. It runs on its own cell service, so it doesn’t need campground Wi-Fi or a phone plan of its own.

The part mama loves most is the price. Our Necto came with two full years of monitoring included. After that, you can keep it going for just $6.99 a month. When we shopped around, other pet monitors we looked at (like Waggle) didn’t include any free service, and their plans cost more each month. Necto gave us more for less.

What we love

  • Peace of mind every time mama and daddy leave me home
  • Alerts go straight to their phones
  • Works on cell service, so spotty campground Wi-Fi doesn’t matter
  • Two years of monitoring included, then a low monthly price
  • Simple to set up

Bottom line: If your pet ever stays in the camper without you, this is the one gadget we’d tell you to buy first. 5 out of 5 paws.

Prime RV (Liquified) Tank Treatment Review: Goodbye, Gray Tank Smell

5 out of 5 paws

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We bought Liquified ourselves and used it for months before we became partners. We only share gear we actually use.

Hi Pack, it’s Biscuit! Let’s talk about the part of camper life nobody wants to talk about: the tanks. My nose is a very important nose, so trust me on this one.

Biscuit's Liquified tank treatment bottles from Prime RV
Our Liquified tank care lineup. Prime RV is the new name; same company, same products.

The smell that started it all

We used to use the blue tablets. The black tank was fine, but there was nothing made for the gray tank except dropping a blue tablet down the drain, and we started getting gray tank smells in the camper. And honestly? Those blue tablets had a strong, weird smell of their own that bothered me. I acted funny every time.

Then mama and daddy heard about the Liquified Gray Tank Treatment. They poured it in, filled the gray tank like normal, and did it again on the next tank. Within two tankfuls, the smell was gone. That was about 7 or 8 months ago, and we haven’t had a tank smell since. We liked it so much we switched everything over to Liquified, and later became partners with them.

What we use

  • Gray Tank Treatment, lemon scent: the one that fixed our gray tank smell
  • Toilet Treatment Pods, orange scent: one drops right into the black tank. Easy, no measuring, and the smell doesn’t bother me one bit.
  • Toilet Treatment, lavender scent: mama keeps it in a spray bottle for cleaning the toilet, and the bathroom smells really nice after
  • Tank & Sensor Cleaner: we just got it, so we’ll tell you how it does once we’ve tried it
Biscuit's Liquified Gray Tank Treatment bottle in the camper water bay
The gray tank treatment lives right in our water bay.

The details

  • Gray Tank Treatment: 32 oz bottle, lemon scent, enzyme formula, $24.99
  • Toilet Treatment Pods: 20 pods, orange or lavender, $24.99
  • Toilet Treatment liquid: 32 oz or 64 oz, orange or lavender, from $17.99
  • Tank & Sensor Cleaner: 16 oz, $19.99
  • Prime RV ships from Elkhart, Indiana
  • Prices from Prime RV’s website in October 2026, before your discount

Anything we’d change?

Nope. It costs a little more than a jar of blue tablets, but no smells, no strong chemical stink and one happy bulldog is worth it.

Bottom line: It took our gray tank smell away in two tankfuls and kept it gone for months. My nose approves. 5 out of 5 paws.

Biscuit with the RVLock keyless door lock
Home is wherever I park my paws, and RVLock keeps it locked.

Mama used to juggle keys, a leash, a bag and me just to get in the door. Now she just presses the little remote on her keychain, and the door unlocks. No digging for keys, no fumbling with full hands. It’s one of those small upgrades that makes every day a little easier, and it feels more secure too.

What we love

  • Unlocks with the remote on mama’s keychain
  • No more fumbling for keys with your hands full
  • Easy to use every single day
  • Feels secure

Bottom line: A small upgrade we use every single day. 5 out of 5 paws.

FXW Dog Fence Review: Our Portable Fence for Campground Life

5 out of 5 paws

I am Biscuit, and I have opinions about fences. A good fence means I get to hang out outside the camper without a leash tangling around every chair leg. A bad fence means I sit inside watching the fun. The FXW dog fence is the good kind.

If you camp with a dog, you know the problem. Campgrounds want dogs leashed or contained, and a tie-out line lasts about ten minutes before it wraps around something. We wanted a fence we could set up at each new site and take down when we roll out.

The FXW fence is a set of metal panels that pin together into whatever shape fits your site. No tools. You set the panels in position, connect them together with the stakes, and push the stakes into the ground. Mama takes about 10 minutes to set up — we use 4 sets and the step adapter.

What I like, from a bulldog’s point of view: it is sturdy enough that I cannot push it over, tall enough that I do not try to jump it, and big enough around that I can sprawl in the sun like I own the place. Dad likes that it stacks flat for travel days, and there’s a carrying case available for purchase if you want one — it keeps ours all together.

What to know before you buy: measure your camper door side first so you order enough panels to make a good-sized run. Taller dogs need the taller panels. And like any fence, do not leave your dog out there unsupervised. This is for hangout time with Mama and daddy, not babysitting.

Mama and daddy were extremely happy with the ease of assembly.

Does your dog have a favorite spot outside the camper, or is the couch the only kingdom that matters?
